Tuesday Night Training

Hills, hills and more hills. The Amateur Team (with the help from the original Warrior) will be crunching the Walmer & Hodgson Street loop (just off the Boulevard) starting from 5:30pm. At this stage, the weather is looking a little sketchy....If it's pelting down, it's safe to assume the session will not be going ahead, otherwise we'll see you all there. Who's interested?

Giro tonight -Plan de Corones!!!! Time Trial

GIRO IN Progress Stage 15 in the mountains. Ouch!
It's going to be unreal, Northside Freewilly please record this so we can catch up and watch during the week.

Stage 15 is one of the stages many Giro fans have been looking forward to this year. In addition to having two cat 2 climbs and a cat 1 leading up to the HC mountaintop finish on Monte Zoncolan (profile), there is also the lengthy bit of flatland totaling 112 km before the climbing even starts. In total, the stage is 212 km starting from Mestre, just outside of Venice.

This is the third time the Giro has finished on Monte Zoncolan with Gilberto Simoni having won the previous two editions, once in
2003 and again in 2007. Zoncolan has the sort of viciously steep profile Simoni relishes; it averages 12% over 10 km with a max grade of 22%. He's back again for his last Giro, but judging by his current form he isn't likely to three-peat.

Well the tour is sneaking up and thought id get in early and organise a little gathering to celebrate this years race. Its a great chance to get together off the bike and catch up with everyone that you have seen or have not seen since the summer riding season. I also think it would be a great chance for those partners who put up with us dissapearing for 4-5 hours (in lycra) every Saturday to join the Tour celebrations. Ill initally need a show of hands and then your hard earned cash!

When > Saturday the 3rd of July 2010
Where > Royal Mail Hotel, 519 Spencer St. West Melbourne, 3003 Victoria, Australia
Time > 6pm drinks for 7:30 meal
Cost > $40 Main Course and Dessert
Theme > French + Cycling

*This is a Lycra free event....

Omerta Trivia Trophy
The highlight of the evening will be the Omerta Trivia Trophy to be awarded to the wining team. Triva is of course to be based on this years tour teams, tour stages, geography of the stages etc so get researching!

Entertainment
I have also organised for the tables along with the menu to be french inspired and am told the big screen will be up and running for some early Tour action, but it wont be the main focus of the evening!

Please let me know who you are and how your brining so I can organise numbers. Places are limited so get in fast.

Sat Morn Ride (Amateur Style)

Amateur Team will be rolling from the Boulevard out to Eltham (Monsalvat) tomorrow morning at 8am. I'm still confirming numbers but at this stage we have Dellano, Didier and myself. Everyone is welcome but be warned we'll be taking it fairly slow (similar to last week). For those of you who might like a longer ride, simply break off towards Research or alike. Post your interest. Cheers.

The poll has again polarized the warriors with the majority voting for leg shaving as being for men, man enough to shave. Of course the voting now has to take place again due to this massive swing towards gayness and the new results will be posted soon. No seriously it may mean that in the summer months more of us try this 'technique' to shed a few grams and stay in touch with the pack, but in the meantime the winter coat is to stay.... Thanks to all who voted and yep we really are taking the big issues by the throat!

Coming Soon

It would be fair to say that most of us in the amateur team loathe the idea of crunching hill after hill on a Saturday morning. Well guess what team, the only way we're all going to improve (or conquer our fears) is by doing some basic hill training.

Starting next week (w/c 24 May) I'll be posting times for some mid-week training sessions at the Boulevard. If anyone is interested, please let us know what your preferred days and times are and we'll do our best to accommodate for everyone.

All riding abilities are welcome but I must warn you we'll be taking it fairly slow for the first few weeks... At least! Full session details will be posted later in the week.

Saturday Morn Ride

Since there was some disorganisation last week, thought I'd put it out there a bit earlier this week. The hills are back on this weekend. Maybe Mt Dandenong via Belgrave and Emerald.

Sunday, May 9, 2010

So the first poll results are in and it looks like the verdict is they are just another fad, but also simple and functional. So who really cares - no one I guess. Anyway the a new poll is up and running thanks to Warrior Tri. If you have a question you'd like aired then send it through and well pop it up asap. Only 4 days to go on the shaved leg verdict! This is hard hitting stuff!

so here I am boys after i had have broken by a whole six minutes after a 270k ride the previous day - the yellow jersey stayed with me the whole way
